أعلنت المديرة العامة لصندوق النقد الدولي كريستين لاجارد اليوم الثلاثاء تقديم استقالتها من الصندوق، بعد حصولها على مزيد من التوضيح بشأن ترشيحها لمنصب الرئيس المقبل للبنك المركزي الأوروبي.
وقالت لاجارد في بيان حسب رويترز إن استقالتها سارية اعتبارا من 12 أيلول المقبل، مما يمهد الطريق أمام صندوق النقد لاختيار مديره الجديد.
وأضافت لاجارد في البيان “وسط مزيد من الوضوح الآن لعملية ترشيحي لمنصب رئيس البنك المركزي الأوروبي والوقت الذي ستستغرقه، اتخذت هذا القرار لصالح الصندوق”.
وتأتي استقالة لاجارد بعد أسبوعين من ترشيحها لرئاسة البنك المركزي الأوروبي في الثاني من تموز.
ولم تستقل لاجارد على الفور من صندوق النقد بسبب عدم التيقن مما إذا كان البرلمان الأوروبي الجديد سيوافق عليها وعلى المناصب القيادية الجديدة الأخرى في الاتحاد الأوروبي.
ويخضع ترشيح لاجارد لموافقة البرلمان الأوروبي الذي يشهد حالة من الانقسام. وإذا نال ترشيحها الموافقة، فستتولى منصب رئيس البنك المركزي الأوروبي خلفا لماريو دراجي في 31 تشرين الأول.
يشار الى ان فترة لاجارد الثانية في منصب المدير العام لصندوق النقد الدولي، ومدتها خمس سنوات، ستنتهي في تموز 2021.
