The Embassy of Mexico in Jordan, in collaboration with Darat Al Tasweer and under the patronage of Mamdouh Bisharat, Duke of Makhaibeh, today opened the photographic exhibition “La Estrit: A Look at the Streets of Mexico” at the historic Umm El-Kundum “La Yazal.”
This striking exhibition showcases the raw, vibrant, and deeply human work of Cecilia Guerrero, Leyni Méndez, and Fermín Guzmán, who founded La Estrit in 2017—a Mexican collective that has become a benchmark for street photography not only in Mexico but also across Latin America and beyond. With lenses focused on everyday life in Mexico City, San Luis Potosí, and the State of Mexico, their work captures fleeting moments and unexpected charm amid the chaos of the very streets they call home.
In his opening remarks, Mexican Ambassador Jacob Prado shared the personal significance of the exhibit:
“Street photography, to me, is one of the most honest and powerful ways to understand the soul of a country—Mexico in this case. It goes beyond aesthetics: it tells stories, reveals characters, and connects us with people through their most spontaneous and sometimes intimate moments.”
Attended by diplomats, artists, photographers, and friends of Mexico, the event celebrated not only photography but also the strong cultural ties between Mexico and Jordan. The exhibition is part of a series of cultural events organized by the Embassy of Mexico to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1975–2025).
Through La Estrit, visitors are invited to see Mexico unfiltered—not through the lens of stereotypes or headlines, but through its people and the corners where life quietly unfolds. Each picture is a window into Mexican society—its traditions, its chaos, its humanity, and its beauty—captured through powerful and poetic lenses that both challenge and inspire.
The exhibition is open to visitors by appointment only. Please contact the Mexican Embassy at +962 6 593 9971 to schedule a visit.
