On the other hand, they missed their calculations, with or without knowledge, that the two sides of the Israeli equation do not talk at all about their recognition of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the Palestinian land in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions, knowing that the Palestinian land according to this path has come under direct occupation and its unprecedented measures without any regard for any agreement, treaty or international reference. Therefore, an excessive bet on the victory of a party that has announced its intention to ease some routine measures, if they happen, without serious talk of committing to a clearly defined political path that resolutely fulfills the aspirations of the Palestinians for self-determination on the Palestinian land, is considered an imaginary bet. In this context, it is more appropriate for Palestinian politicians to invoke the Palestinian situation with a deliberate vision and a national consensus to deal with any camp that will win and its future approach, and this requires full readiness with a number of initiatives and practical proposals in order to preserve national gains and protect the national project as a whole, rather than waiting for “what will be”, like a lottery game based on luck and not through lessons. The other thing is that the Palestinian legislative elections, which are supposed to be held at the end of next November, were recently postponed, but it was announced in another decree that they were postponed and presidential and legislative elections were called for September next year. Therefore, the Palestinian arena has entered into a media, legal, political and social arena between supporters and opponents of the resolution, and everyone is waiting for the outcome of the National Dialogue in Cairo. On the other hand, a majority of Palestinian politicians believe that postponing the right to vote is necessary in order to achieve national reconciliation and the success of the national consensus on what the Palestinian political system as a whole is, and then to go to general elections when conditions allow to hold them. In this context, I believe that the path of national consensus or national reconciliation is not serious for some, and therefore we will not see the light of that in the near future. Unfortunately, since the Mecca Agreement of 2007 and until the Beijing Declaration in 2024, there has been no progress in internal reconciliation or even national consensus on the program for the next stage, which consists in rebuilding the Palestinian political system and its institutions on sound democratic or constitutional foundations. Perhaps one of the most important reasons for the lack of success in this entire path is the absence of an independent decision and serious national will among some in future directions; and this is related to effective regional and international attractions. With regard to the national dialogue and the issue of elections, it is necessary to note a serious thing that some Palestinian politicians have missed, that periodic elections are the right of the people only, in the sense that the people are the ones who choose who to represent them through the ballot box according to a time limit set by law, and therefore linking the issue of elections to the national consensus is a circumvention of this right and depriving the citizen of candidacy and election in accordance with the law. National consensus is good and needed, but after the elections, not before. In the Palestinian case, it is necessary to work hard to make the electoral process a success, as it represents a political battle aimed at protecting national gains and preserving its sovereignty, and this is important. It is worth mentioning that political parties and blocs are required to submit their electoral program to the citizen, and the latter is the one who decides which programs are better, and each bloc or political party that took over the government, participated in it, supported it or even opposed it, will be subject to public accountability for its performance during that period, the outputs of public work do not fall by the statute of limitations, and then it will be its fate before the people’s court to evaluate its performance and then hold it accountable for what it did and provided. In this context, Palestinian politicians should go to the general elections, presidential and legislative, immediately, and everyone should assume his responsibilities, starting with who has the right to elect or run, and the party that bears the responsibility to ensure the success of the electoral process in a fair manner and oblige everyone to accept the results. We also call on friendly countries that support the democratic process in Palestine to be a guest observer of these elections, without interfering in their procedures, in order to strengthen the Palestinian democratic situation and put an end to the occupation and its procedures if there is any threat to the process and its electoral path. Accordingly, those who are lucky enough to succeed will have the right to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people at the national dialogue table, and therefore his position will be linked to his legitimacy obtained from the will of the people, and not vice versa, and this makes him wiser, responsible and able to make a decision. In the end, Palestinian politicians are still betting on what will happen, and most importantly, “what will happen” may not come, and thus more time is wasted and opportunities are lost. It is worth them to prepare well for any developments in order to serve the Supreme National Interest and preserve national gains, the most important of which is the human being. This requires going towards openness and achieving reform in an “effective, resolute” and without hesitation, and working with all political, social, economic, cultural and civil components on the basis of partnership and common destiny, and not on the basis of strengthening influence or control. As well as the dimension of betting on alliances, and going in the direction of partnerships with those who are keen to support Palestine and its political and development path. Otherwise, the Palestinian situation will become more isolated and regressive, and most importantly, more suffering for the citizen who faces the occupation and its daily actions alone, and the increasing absence of the path of governance, social justice and equality, depriving him of his constitutional right to construction and political and community participation alike.
