Small missteps in direction can often lead to the right place.
This is how Serine Daoud Shaheen describes her journey, which began with a major she hadn’t planned for, and ended with a career she had long dreamed of, within the halls of one of the most prestigious hotels in Qatar’s capital, Doha.

Entering the field of hotel management was not her first choice, as she initially aspired to study medicine or artificial intelligence. She recalls that period:
“I entered the major without conviction, and I thought daily about changing it. I never felt I belonged in this field, and the first semester was one of the hardest phases of my life.”

The turning point came during an event organized by Ammon University College, where she had the opportunity to meet several HR managers from five-star hotels in Amman. This experience, combined with the college’s efforts to guide and motivate students toward the bright spots in hospitality careers, marked the beginning of her transformation.

Serine began her professional journey with hands-on experience at prestigious hotels such as Fairmont Amman and St. Regis Amman, gaining high-level skills in a professional environment, with direct support from the college and academic supervision, which greatly contributed to shaping her practical abilities.

This passion, training, and encouragement led Serine to start a new chapter in her career on March 1, 2025, at one of the world’s largest hospitality establishments, by joining St. Regis Doha. She moved to Qatar for intensive training aimed at full operational readiness, which culminated in a job contract making her an official member of the St. Regis Doha team.

She adds:
“I was away from my family and comfort, but close to my dream. I learned not to stop and not to give up, and that every fall has a lesson, and every challenge a new opportunity.”

Looking back, Serine now reflects on her experience with pride and gratitude—not only for what she has achieved but for the journey that shaped her into a confident, resilient individual, capable of thriving anywhere in the world.

She emphasizes that her experience would not have been complete without the support of her family, who motivated her and helped overcome obstacles that could have hindered her academic and professional path. She also expresses deep appreciation for Ammon University College and its staff, highlighting the pivotal role of its faculty and organized events in honing her skills and guiding her career.

Serine extends heartfelt thanks to His Excellency Michel Nazzal, Chairman of the Board of the Jordanian Company for Hotel and Tourism Education, for his continuous support of the university and encouragement of success stories. She also thanks His Excellency Dr. Emad Hijazin, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, for his encouragement during his tenure as university president and his kind patronage of the graduation ceremony, saying:
“Yesterday we were students in classrooms, today we carry the name of Jordan abroad. We aim to elevate the status of Jordan’s tourism sector worldwide.”

Serine concludes her interview with a smile that says it all:
“Success stories at Ammon College never end, and I am proud to be one of them. Every step in my journey reminds me that difficult beginnings create beautiful endings.”

Thank you to my teachers and colleagues at Ammon College.
