King, Turkish president hold talks in Istanbul

His Majesty King Abdullah and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on Saturday to expand cooperation between Jordan and Turkey, especially in economic and investment-related areas.

Talks between King Abdullah and President Erdogan, held at Huber Palace and attended by senior officials on both sides, covered the strong ties between the two countries and means to bolster them in all fields.

Discussions also touched on the importance of maintaining coordination and consultation between Jordan and Turkey on issues of mutual concern and developments in the Middle East.

Discussing the Palestinian cause, His Majesty stressed the need to step up efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Talks also addressed the importance of maintaining efforts to support UNRWA to sustain its relief, educational, and health services for Palestinian refugees.

Moreover, talks covered developments connected to the Syrian crisis, with the King affirming the importance of reaching a political solution that safeguards the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people, while also guaranteeing the safe return of refugees.

Regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach were also discussed.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Turkey Ismail Rifai attended the meeting.

From the Turkish side, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, and Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Murat Karagoz were also in attendance.

President Erdogan hosted a dinner in honour of His Majesty and the accompanying delegation.
