وأضافت أن “استعداد الولايات المتحدة للدبلوماسية أعقبه مراراً وتكراراً سلوك إيران العنيف المستمر في المنطقة”.
وأشارت أورتيغاس إلى تهديد طهران لسلامة الملاحة في المياه الدولية والهجمات التي شنها الحرس الثوري ضد عدة نفط ناقلات في الخليج العربي وبحر عمان خلال الشهرين الماضيين، بالإضافة إلى توجيه الاتهام للحرس الثوري مرة أخرى بعرقلة حركة ناقلة بريطانية.
وبالرغم من تصاعد التوترات خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة بين إيران والولايات المتحدة، استبعدت المتحدثة باسم وزارة الخارجية الأميركية حدوث مواجهة عسكرية، وقالت إن “حكومة ترمب على العكس من كل التكهنات في واشنطن خلال الشهرين الماضيين، لا تتجه نحو الحرب مع إيران”.
