Fourth wave of coronavirus expected in Canada’s Quebec

shahennews

A fourth wave of coronavirus, driven by the delta variant, is “inevitable” in Quebec, the province’s Health Minister Christian Dube said, noting that delta is behind a third of new infections in Quebec and it is predicted that it will account for half of them in the coming weeks.

In a statement late Tuesday, Dube stated “taking into account the increase in cases, the fall coming up with the back to school and back to work and the expected prevalence of the delta variant, the conditions are there to deploy the vaccination passport.”

The vaccine passport will be implemented in places with high capacity and a high rate of contact, such as festivals, bars, restaurants, gyms and training facilities to avoid the widespread closures that marked the first waves of COVID-19 in Quebec, he indicated.

Quebec reported 234 new COVID-19 infections over the last 24 hours, raising the caseload in the province to 379,673, along with 11,241 deaths.
