Death toll from Sudan floods rises to 22

The death toll from flash floods and torrential rains that hit the Nile River in Sudan this week has risen to 22.

According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the country’s Civil Defence said that an estimated 4,747 houses have been destroyed since the beginning of the floods.

UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan pointed out that some 12,000 people in eight out of the country’s 18 states had been affected, adding that “over 800 homes have reportedly been destroyed and over 4,400 homes damaged.”

Heavy rains usually fall in Sudan from June to October, and the country faces severe flooding every year, wrecking properties, infrastructure, and crops.
