The Specialized Hospital recorded a new medical achievement in the Kingdom. A specialized medical team at the hospital succeeded in performing the first successful surgery in Jordan, separating conjoined twins, as part of a rare and complex operation conducted by a team of twenty-five of the finest consultants and technicians. The head of the medical team, Consultant Pediatrician and Director General of the Specialized Hospital, Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammoury, stated during the press conference that was held in the hospital on Sunday 3/10/2021 that the two children, Ahmed and Muhammad, were born in a sister Arab country in a rare medical phenomenon, as they are adjacent to each other in an area The chest and abdomen share the liver, rib cage, diaphragm and heart membrane, and the separation of the two children was an urgent medical necessity. Hammouri explained that the success of this operation required a series of logistical preparations to facilitate their arrival in Jordan through a complex medical evacuation process. The general health of them and the identification of the joint organs between the twins and a vision of the best way to separate these organs while preserving the lives of both children, where a series of medical procedures that preceded the operation began, including the treatment of some of their pathological imbalances and work to gain weight through intensive nutrition to reach the ideal weight For the operation, this preparatory stage lasted for five months before the operation. Al-Hammouri added that he was optimistic about the outcome of the dismissal process from the beginning, given the availability of highly experienced medical and nursing staff and the advanced medical equipment and devices available in the hospital. The twins underwent the operation on July 3, 2021, where the medical team was divided into two groups after the separation process, and the operation took eight hours. Regarding the details of the surgical separation process, Al-Hammouri stated that the dangerous stages during the separation took place in the best possible way, as modern technologies and advanced devices were used during the operation, whether by procedures of separation, cutting or cultivation, which worked to avoid a lot of bleeding, and contributed to accelerating the healing process of wounds and building the skin. , in addition to the high-precision cosmetic closure, and that the success of the operation is undoubtedly due to the strenuous efforts made by the medical team, which, thankfully, were crowned with success. Al-Hamouri explained that the twins were taken care of after the operation in the intensive care department by a multidisciplinary medical team, which lasted for three months, and that the two children, Ahmed and Muhammad, are now enjoying good health, and they are being prepared for their safe return to their country, accompanied by their parents, wishing them a promising life, God willing, and added that the adoption of the hospital The specialist and the medical team for this human condition financially contributed to the realization of that dream, which covered 50% of the total cost, in addition to the support provided by several charitable and humanitarian agencies. Al-Hammouri expressed his thanks and appreciation to the medical team and everyone who contributed to saving the lives of the two children, expressing his happiness with this achievement, which he considered an achievement for the health sector in the Kingdom in general, represented by the Ministry of Health and Royal Medical Services, university hospitals and private hospitals in particular, which is in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah The second is to maintain the excellence of the medical services provided in the Kingdom and the good reputation that Jordan has gained to remain the first destination for medical tourism in the region. It is worth noting that the Specialized Hospital has three decades of experience and achievements in performing complex and rare operations in Jordan and the region, which enabled it to succeed in performing this complex operation and other major operations.
