A fresh bid to explore oil in the Al-Jafr and Al-Sarhan regions, south and northeast, is planned to start in February 2022, according to a statement by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, released on Tuesday.

Kharabsheh said that his ministry has already started collecting seismic survey data for those areas, and that an expert company in this field will be hired to process and analyze data for each of the areas under exploration.

He expected that the next two years would see a strong move towards oil and gas exploration in most regions of the Kingdom by analyzing 2,000 kilometers of two-dimensional seismic survey lines, and inviting interested companies to obtain an exploration license.

As for the Hamza oil field, Kharabsheh indicated that the ministry is following up on studies to increase its productivity by drilling three new deep wells in August next year. “Two other previously drilled wells will also be added to the study to ascertain their production capacities,” he added.

Moreover, a detailed study of the East Al-Jafr region is currently underway to drill 3 medium-depth wells, in cooperation with the National Petroleum Company.
