Government and United Nations stakeholders have held a high-level national consultative meeting on the 2023-2027 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said it held the meeting Sunday in cooperation with the UN Coordinator Office in Jordan with the participation of representatives of various government entities and other stakeholders.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning, Marwan Rifai, said that the interventions envisaged under the UN framework must be consistent with the Jordanian context and have a tangible and clear impact on the life of the Jordanian citizen.

Rifai called for strengthening the mechanisms of transparency and joint accountability for both the government and UN stakeholders under a governance framework that outlines roles and responsibilities.

Ghulam M. Isaczai, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Jordan, said the UN is committed to expanding its support to the country’s growth, by providing support to growth policies and strategies, financing pathways, that reduce exclusion, strengthening the rights and self-reliance opportunities of the most vulnerable including refugees, addressing water scarcity, ensuring food security and access to clean energy.

He also emphasized that the UN’s commitment also includes a focus on strengthening the links between institutions and populations, as an enabler of the success and sustainability of the first three priorities.

The meeting discussed a set of priorities under the new cooperation framework, which includes supporting Jordan to achieve green growth and sustainable job opportunities, promoting rights and self-reliance opportunities, especially for women and youth, and promoting sustainable management of water and energy resources, among others.

The UN Development Cooperation Framework is a strategic vehicle for planning and implementing UN development activities at the country level to support the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda as outlined in General Assembly Resolution 72/279.
