Remittances by Jordanians working in Qatar amounted to $117 million in the first quarter of 2022, up by 17 percent from the $100 million reported in the same period of 2021.

Qatari exchangers told (Petra) on Wednesday that the increase was driven by the rise in the number of Jordanian expatriates in Qatar, going from 60,000 three years ago to 70,000 currently, in implementation of two Qatari employment initiatives in 2018 and 2020 respectively.

According to recent statistics issued by the Qatar Central Bank, the total of overall remittances in 2021 hit $11 billion.

Data indicated that overall expats’ remittances in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to 9.66 billion Qatari riyals and inched up to 10.3 billion riyals in the second quarter. However, in the third quarter, they decreased to 9.53 but bounced back to some 10 billion riyals in the last quarter of 2021.
