His Majesty King Abdullah II said respecting and enforcing the law is the basic guarantee of the rights and freedoms of citizens.

The King made the remarks during a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace on Sunday with Chairman of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) Board of Trustees, Mohammad Bakhit, who presented the King with a copy of the 2017 annual report of the centre on human rights conditions in Jordan.

The King stressed the need for the cooperation of all parties and institutions to carry out the recommendations and follow up the observations contained in the report, especially the points that have been repeated over the past years, in a bid to augment the human rights network, where citizen is the nucleus of its interest.

The King voiced his appreciation for the NCHR’s great role in protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom, and also stressed the need to highlight Jordan’s efforts in this field.

During the meeting, Bakhit reviewed the most prominent issues and challenges in connection to the human rights situation in the Kingdom tackled in the report, and the recommendations and actions required to strengthen the freedoms and human rights system.

Chief of the Royal Court, the Advisor to the King, the Director of His Majesty’s Office, and the Government Coordinator for Human Rights, attended the meeting.
