Three wanted persons killed in police shootout

In an armed confrontation with a special security force, the police announced the deaths of three dangerous wanted terrorists, two of whom had recently escaped from jail.
A special security unit raided the hiding spot of three wanted terrorists, including two individuals who recently escaped from jail, close to the southeast border strip of the Kingdom, according to a media spokesperson for the Public Security Department.
The third person is a key member of a terrorist cell responsible for the killing of a police brigadier general in December 2022 during riots in the south of the kingdom.
The spokesman said that the security force applied the rules of engagement against the wanted men after they fired heavy gunfire at the force, killing the three wanted men.
The media spokesman explained that a few days ago, two convicted prisoners managed to escape from a prison and laid low.
He indicated that investigators found out that the fugitives were using a stolen vehicle and were constantly on the move in desert areas in the southeast of the Kingdom.
The spokesman further stated that the fugitives were discovered yesterday hundreds of meters from the Kingdom’s southeastern border strip, in a highly rough terrain. He also stated that a special security force was mobilized and sent on foot to the area in pursuit of the wanted men.
The media spokesman said that the security force surrounded the fugitives and applied the rules of engagement against them after they opened fire on the force with automatic firearms. An exchange of fire resulted in the death of the three wanted men.
A committee is currently investigating the jailbreak, the spokesman concluded.
