Former El Salvador president sentenced to 10 years in prison

An El Salvador court late Wednesday sentenced former President Antonio Saca to 10 years in prison ordering him to give back $260 million to the state after he pleaded guilty to embezzlement and money laundering charges, Public Prosecution said on twitter .

Saca, who was President of El Salvador between 2004 and 2009, has already spent two years in prison as he was detained in October 2016. He still has to stay behind bars for another eight years.

The court also sentenced six other former officials from Saca’s government for participating in his network of corruption.
