The Jordan Water Co Miyahuna said in a statement on Thursday, November 1, that they have temporarily stopped pumping water to the following areas in Amman: Sweifieh, Deir Ghbar, Umm al Summaq (west side), Tabarbour and Tareq

The delay in providing those areas with water is a result of roadworks which caused one of the side roads on Airport Road, near Qaryat al-Nakheel, to collapse, thereby making it “extremely dangerous” for the company to put more pressure on the road infrastructure by pumping water out to west Amman

Miyahuna noted that their main distribution pipes sit very close to the collapsed road, while some of their other pipes, closer to where the collapse happened, have already been affected

The roadworks were being carried out for the construction of a new shopping mall

Miyahuna has not said how long it will take before they’re able to pump water again

Meanwhile, the Civil Defense Directorate (CDD) told Roya that it has not received a phone call informing it about the collapsed road, nor did it visit the site to handle the incident

An informed source also said on Thursday that no one was injured as a result of the collapse, adding that the relevant authorities were at the scene as soon as they were informed about the accident, after which they closed the area around the collapsed road and diverted traffic to keep drivers and citizens safe
