98 countries to discuss Jordan’s report on human rights situation

Jordan will present its national report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva on November 8 within the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism of the Council.

 

Jordan’s delegation to the UPR, which will depart for Geneva on Monday, will be led by Human Rights Coordinator Basel Tarawneh and will comprise Head of Jordan’s mission at the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Saja al-Majali, as well as

representatives of ministries, public, security, judicial, legal and civil society institutions.

 

The number of countries registered with the Council to discuss the report of Jordan

stands at 98 countries, including 13 Arab countries, a fact which reflects, according to Tarawneh, keenness and attention to the human rights situation and progress achieved during the second review which too place four and a half years ago.

 

Tarawneh told Petra that the report focuses on efforts of the government and national and civil society institutions in the field of human rights and basic freedoms.
