Six COVID-19 deaths, 734 infections recorded Monday: Minister

A total of 734 coronavirus cases, including 721 local infections, and six deaths were recorded Monday, Minister of Health Sa’ed Jabir announced.

He told a press conference at the prime ministry that the majority of today’s cases were recorded in Amman, which accounted for 593 cases, followed by Zarqa (52), Balqa (22), Ajloun (16), Ma’an (12), Mafraq (11), Karak (10), Madaba (3), and two cases in Jerash.

With that, the total caseload has reached 9,226 cases since the outbreak in March, while the death toll has stood at 51, the minister indicated. He noted that only 13 of today’s caseload were imported infections.

On a more positive note, Jabir said 137 patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals today. As for testing, the minister said 16,453 tests were conducted Monday, pushing the total to 1,187,350 since March.

He revealed that more laboratories will be opened in Irbid, Zarqa, Aqaba, Ghor al-Safi and in the Al-Bashir Hospital to ramp up testing. This is in addition to floating a tender to establish a similar laboratory in Ma’an.
