The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Sakher Dudin, confirmed to Roya Tuesday that there may be a review of the decisions taken to limit the coronavirus, which is spreading in all governorates of the Kingdom, expressing his fear of the steep rise in the epidemic curve in the Kingdom, which he described as dangerous, noting that if cases do not decrease within a week, a total lockdown may be possible.

He did not state what number of coronavirus cases must be recorded in order for these restrictions to be imposed.

He said that the mutated COVID-19 strains have caused the virus to spread very quickly, warning of non-compliance with preventive measures and non-compliance with the night-time curfew hours, which may result in further restrictions on the movement of citizens which is unwanted, due to its negative economic impact.

He stressed that the government’s main concern is flattening the curve in order to preserve citizen health and the economy, noting that they are also concerned with their aim of reopening sectors during the summer, especially seeing as the number of coronavirus cases in Jordan has reached “terrifying numbers.”

Dudin reiterated that there is great pressure in hospitals, and that there are hospitals that have reached 100 percent occupancy.

Jordan recorded 9,417 cases and 82 coronavirus deaths Monday, bringing the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 486,470 cases and 5,428 deaths.
