Cold weather forecast Sunday, wet depression Monday

A slight rise in temperatures is forecast on Sunday, but cold and partly cloudy weather conditions will prevail across the Kingdom with scattered showers in the northern region, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

The weather service issued alerts about poor horizontal visibility in the Badia and the highlands due to dust and dense fog.

As for Monday, the Kingdom will be affected by a chilly and wet air mass associated with an air depression centered over the island of Cyprus, pushing temperatures sharply down and bringing heavy rain in various regions.

Precipitation will often be heavy in the country’s northern and central areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, causing flash floods in valleys and lowlands. Snow showers mixed with rain are also forecast in the late night hours over the high mountain peaks, according to the JMD.

Winds will be westerly active, with gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour in some areas and blowing dust in the eastern and southern regions.

Temperatures in the capital Amman today will range between a high of 11 degrees Celsius and a low of 3C at night, while the port city of Aqaba will see a fair 22C, sliding to 10C at night.
