Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Makram Al-Qaisi, on Wednesday, undertook a comprehensive assessment of the tourism landscape at several significant sites in downtown Amman.

His visit encompassed the renowned historical landmark of Amman Citadel, the Jordan Archaeological Museum, the Roman Nymphaeum, and the iconic Hashemite Plaza.

During his tour of the Museum, Al-Qaisi emphasized the imperative need to elevate its standards through modern techniques in display methodologies, by implementing state-of-the-art technologies to enhance the visitor experience and safeguard the preservation of precious archaeological artifacts housed within the exhibition cabinets.

Engaging with a diverse group of Jordanian and international tourists, the Minister actively listened to their firsthand encounters and feedback regarding their visits to Jordan and its extraordinary array of tourist attractions. He underscored the significance of facilitating a seamless and hospitable environment for all visitors to archaeological and touristic sites.

During his visit to the Hashemite Plaza, Al-Qaisi was acquainted with the proposed locations earmarked for two forthcoming museums, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Department of Antiquities, and the Greater Amman Municipality.

In light of his tour, Al-Qaisi gave directives to commence the establishment of the two museums within the plaza’s premises. The first museum will showcase compelling models exemplifying the archaeological artifacts that chronicle the evolution of Amman’s civilization and the remarkable creativity of its inhabitants across different historical eras. The second one will curate a captivating collection of the most noteworthy archaeological images depicting the city of Amman and the remarkable achievements realized during the reign of the Hashemite dynasty over the past century.

“The creation of new museums and the enhancement of existing ones, such as the Jordan Folklore Museum and the Jordanian Museum of Traditional Costumes and Jewelry, located at the Roman Amphitheater, form an integral part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ strategic plan to introduce novel tourism products and invigorate tourism activities in downtown Amman,” he emphasized.

The Minister reiterated that these museums will serve as compelling additions to the existing archaeological marvels in downtown Amman, underlining the Ministry’s commitment to transform Amman into a thriving city adorned with a wealth of tourism and heritage offerings, thus fortifying Jordan’s tourism identity and fostering socio-economic opportunities for local communities.
