King receives the 2018 Asian Games team

SHAHEEN NEWS-His Majesty King Abdullah II received on Wednesday Jordanian athletes and players, who achieved outstanding results at the Asian Games 2018, which was recently hosted by Indonesia.

During the meeting held at al-Husseiniya Palace, and attended by HRH Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein, Chairman of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, and Princess Zina Rashed, President of the Olympic Preparatory Program, His Majesty expressed great appreciation to all those who contributed to the realization of the distinguished victories for the Jordanian sport.

What the players of the national team have done to raise Jordan’s flag by winning the largest number of medals for the Kingdom in the history of its participations in the Asian Games is a source of pride for all Jordanians, the King said.

His Majesty also stressed the importance of continuing to develop the programs of preparing players and promoting the role of sport federations to reach more achievements and positive results for Jordanian sport at international forums.

Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Advisor to the King, the Director of His Majesty’s Office, and the Secretary General of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, also attended the meeting.

The Asian Games are held every four years, and are the second largest sporting event after the Olympics in terms of number of games and athletes.

At the Asian Games, which was hosted by Indonesia from August 18 to September 2, Jordan won 12 medals, including two golds in taekwondo and ju-jitsu, a silver in ju-jitsu, and nine bronze medals in taekwondo, ju-jitsu, karate and boxing.

The Olympic Training Center of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, an integrated sports complex established to provide an ideal training environment for athletes within advanced standards, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, was tasked to select and train players.
