President of Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Nael Kabariti, called on the government to reconsider the decision to suspend the free trade agreement with Turkey and to take into account the interests of the national economy and protect it

He said that the commercial sector had hoped that the government would re-examine the agreement carefully, to achieve the interests of all parties and in accordance with the interest of all economic sectors, explaining that everyone support the national industry and its competitiveness, and promotes national products both inside and outside the Kingdom

Th JCC president said in a press statement on Saturday that the suspension of the agreement means causing serious damage to traders and companies, stressing the need to reach understandings with the Turkish government on this issue

“Many of the commercial and service sectors will be affected by the decision to cancel the agreement as they established investments, transactions, agreements and businesses with Turkish companies according to terms of the FTA,” he said, stressing that the agreement included positives aspects that serve the national economy and consumers

Kabariti called on the government to return to negotiations with the Turkish side on the conditions set by the Jordanian government to reactivate the FTA and examine the negatives aspects that emerged after its implementation, indicating the need to protect the interests of the commercial sectors which established their businesses on the basis of its terms

The Cabinet decided in March last year to suspend the FTA with Turkey, which entered into force in 2011, and will totally scrapped on November 22

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply informed the Jordan chambers of industry and trade that the agreement with Turkey will become ineffective as of November 22
