King participates in Netherland anti-terrorism meeting

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday participated in the “Aqaba Meetings” to follow up on and coordinate international efforts in the war on terror.
The meetings in the Hague, which were co-chaired by the Netherlands and Jordan, tackled extremism and efforts to combat terrorism, focusing mainly on Europe’s role in this regard.
The Jordanian delegation comprised Chief Chamberlain, HRH Prince Hashem bin al Hussein, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, HRH Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi, as well as the King’s Advisor and the Director of His Majesty’s Office.
Participants in the meetings included a number of ministers and senior security and political officials, in addition to officials and representatives from the United Nations, European Union, NATO, USA, Canada, Australia and other global partners.
The King held separate meetings with British Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, Alan Duncan, Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulides, Portuguese Interior Minister, Eduardo Cabrita, and NATO Deputy Secretary General, Rose Gottemoeller.
The meeting discussed prospects of cooperation and efforts to combat terrorism within a holistic approach, in addition to a number of regional issues.
The Netherlands is the second country to host the meeting after Albania, which hosted it for the first time outside Jordan last June.
The Aqaba Meetings, launched by King Abdullah in 2015, aim at enhancing security and military coordination and sharing expertise and intelligence among regional and international partners to fight terrorism.
Over the past years, the Aqaba meetings featured similar discussions with heads and representatives of a number of states in East and West Africa, Southeast Asia and the Balkans, as well as senior officials from across the world.
