Over two million students return to school in Jordan amid COVID-19 pandemic

Around 2,145 million students in Jordan started their new academic year today, Tuesday, amid the coronavirus pandemic

However, if one student tests positive for COVID-19, the school will move towards distance learning, said the Minister of Education, Tayseer al-Nuaimi.

School attendance for classes which start with odd numbers has started today, September 1, which included the first grade, third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh, and school attendance for classes which start with even numbers will start on Wednesday, September 2, which include the second grade, fourth, sixth, eighth, tenth and twelfth.

The Ministry of Education has previously announced new health restrictions following the start of the academic year, which included; teachers or students who suffer from chronic diseases that might lead to immune deficiency, such as lung diseases, obesity, diabetes and cancer, should move towards distance learning.

Students should not be sent to schools if they suffer from high temperature, general exhaustion, sore throat or coughing.

In addition, the ministry called on students to adhere to wearing masks while they are on school transport and to keep a distance of one metre at least between each student.

Schools attendance was suspended in the country since last March as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
