Minister of Water and Irrigation, Motasem Saidan, on Tuesday discussed with German Ambassador to the Kingdom, Bernhard Kampmann, means of cementing ties through speeding up the implementation of bilateral water programs and projects, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement by the ministry said that the meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing the long and continuous bilateral cooperation, by implementing more programs to improve water supply services across the Kingdom.

Saidan said that the ministry is keen to benefit from the advanced German expertise in various areas. He indicated that local water demand reached unprecedented rates during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that water supply has been increased by 10 percent per month.

“The two sides discussed response programs to overcome the coronavirus crisis, in addition to other challenges that imposed a continuous decrease in various water resources, such as water loss, high operating and energy costs, and irrigation challenges,” the statement added.

The German ambassador expressed his country’s appreciation to Jordan as a close partner, stressing the continuation of joint cooperation in various fields.
