Foreign labor bank guarantee requirement suspended

Alshaheen News

Employers and recruitment agencies are temporarily relieved from submitting legal or bank guarantees that are normally required when recruiting foreign workers from restricted and unrestricted nationalities, according to a decision taken by Minister of Labor and State Minister for Investment Affairs, Ma’en Qatamin.

In a statement Tuesday, the ministry said the decision aims to assist the private sector, reduce employers’ financial burdens and ensure business sustainability given the exceptional circumstances imposed by the coronavirus crisis.

However, the ministry indicated that employers with more than 30 non-Jordanian workers are not included in the decision.

Furthermore, the decision allows eligible employers to access the foreign labor guarantees held with banks and use the amounts to address financial hardships.

The ministry said article 8 of the domestic workers recruitment regulation will remain in force, so will article 11 of the regulation pertaining to the recruitment of non-Jordanians by employers based in qualified industrial zones.
