Italian ambassador: Jordan oasis of stability in Mideast

 Italian ambassador Fabio Cassese on Tuesday said that Jordan is a “real oasis” of stability in the Middle East, and noted that the Kingdom’s efforts in the pursuit of peace, spearheaded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, are clearly evident.

Speaking to Petra on his country’s national day, the envoy paid tribute to Jordan’s endeavors to combat terrorism and extremism, noting that the Kingdom played a key role in the fight against the terrorist Daesh group.

According to the ambassador, both Amman and Rome maintain bilateral and multilateral dialogue and see eye-to-eye on a host of issues of mutual concern, including the need for the international community to support Syrian refugees, climate change action and the proposal to build a shared energy storage facility in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

On the Palestinian issue, Cassese stressed that his country’s approach is in line with the European position that supports a two-state solution, indicating that Italy is ready to make all efforts to facilitate the re-launch of dialogue between the Palestinians and Israelis.
