For a third consecutive day, Jordan continues to bake in a blazing heat wave that pushed mercury levels 4-5 degrees above annual average, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its forecast for Wednesday.

In Amman and other highlands, north and south, daytime mercury levels will range between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius. In the late afternoon and evening hours, cooler weather is forecast as temperatures slide to around 27 and 21C in some southern and northern highlands.

The Jordan Valley, 212 to 400 meters below sea level, and the Red Sea port of Aqaba are set to swelter in scorching weather with temperatures breaking into the 43-44C vicinity, the meteorologists added.

The weather department warned people against direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours from noon to 3pm, and of low visibility caused by dust-laden winds in the Badia.

Over the next two days, similar sizzling weather will remain with clouds at various altitudes and northwesterly moderate to active winds, the JMD further said.
