Tourism income down 20.7pct in 2021

 Jordan’s tourism revenue declined by 20.7 per cent in the first seven months of 2021 to a total of $915 million compared to the same period of last year.

However, in July, and for a fourth consecutive month, the tourism sector continued to bounce back driven by an improved epidemiological situation and a higher turnout for vaccination, according to data released Tuesday by the Central Bank of Jordan.

In July, tourism revenue increased by $268 million reaching $292.4 million compared to the same month of last year, the bank indicated.

The figures indicated that tourist arrivals in July stood at 261,000, 43.5 per cent of who were non-resident Jordanians and 45 per cent Arab nationals.

Jordanians’ expenditure on travel during July spiked by $125 million to $134 million, while the overall expenditure during the first seven months of 2021 inched up by 29.2 per cent to $402 million.
