The January-June 2023 period saw about 400,000 people visiting Madaba governorate, an upswing of 131 percent over the same period last year.

Mount Nebo welcomed the highest visitors number of 378,015, followed by 279,530 visitors to St George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 258,233 to Madaba Visitors Center, 9,090 to the Church of the Apostles, the Archaeological Park, and the Archaeological Museum, 22,597 to the Mukawir site, 25,094 to Panorama Dead Sea, and 45,016 visitors to Ma’in Hot Springs, according to Director Of Madaba Tourism Directorate Wael Janineh.

The Mukawir site saw a remarkable 600 percent increase in the number of visitors that can be attributed to the site’s improved services and development, its recognition as one of the Christian pilgrimage sites in 2000, and promotional campaigns, added Janineh.

Madaba houses 118 tourist establishments, including 22 hotels, 31 restaurants, 27 industries and handicrafts operators, 33 tourist shops for oriental antiques, and 5 tourism, travel, Hajj, and Umrah offices.
