The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, on Monday, organized a tour for media professionals to the Palace of Halabat and the Palace of Hammam Al-Sarh and Umm Al-Jamal in Mafraq province, in order to introduce the tourist values of the desert palaces.
The tour comes within the vision of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the development and diversification of the tourism product. The ministry seeks to develop tourist attraction areas that enrich the visitor experience in the tourist and archaeological areas in the Kingdom’s governorates.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Lina Annab, confirmed that this tour comes in implementation of the duties of the ministry in order to encourage domestic tourism and tourism investment, organization and sponsorship, indicating that the ministry organizes tourism programs for this purpose in order to introduce citizens to the Kingdom’s landmarks.
Annab said that the ministry has put the national plan for tourism awareness for the years 2017-2021 in order to enhance awareness of the importance of tourism industry in the national economy, and to create awareness of the value of tourism professions and raise awareness of the importance of historical and cultural heritage.
She added that the national plan for tourism awareness includes the implementation of awareness campaigns at the level of the Kingdom aimed at various social groups and students working in the tourism sector and the various media.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Issa Gammoh, stressed the importance of encouraging domestic tourism and the Jordanian citizen to visit the tourist and archaeological sites scattered in all governorates, pointing out that it is suitable tourism for families and students of schools and universities. This is reflected positively by increasing income and providing jobs for local communities. The level of tourism awareness and therefore training and increase their ability to provide their tourism product.

He pointed out that the Umm Al-Jamal area is rich in heritage, where the site of the traces of Umm Al-Jamal and its immortal architectural heritage will be highlighted materially and morally through collecting all the written documents of the site since ancient times and through different ages. He pointed out that the site will be renovated and maintained in coordination with the concerned authorities to preserve and maintain the buildings and to activate tourism in all its cultural, religious, Islamic and Christian dimensions. There are 17 churches, Amoy and Mamouki Mamluks and a tower for pigeons.
