Polar depression to bring snow on highlands

shahennews

The polar front accompanying a depression and gripping the Kingdom is expected to deepen on Wednesday, pushing temperatures sharply down and bringing chilly and cloudy weather, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Torrential rain is also expected with thunder storms and hail, causing flash floods in the valleys and low-lying areas, while winds will be northwesterly active with strong gust exceeding 50 Km/h, the meteorologists predicted.

Snowfall is forecast in the highlands located 1110 meters above sea level and higher, meanwhile areas below that may witness snow mixed with rain, the JMD said.

Later at night, clouds will start to gradually decrease and rainfall will taper off with a possibility of freeze formation over heights and the Badia areas.

The weather department warned of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain, poor visibility due to fog, and of flood formation as well as freezing in the late night hours.

Despite a slight rise in mercury levels, bitter cold conditions will remain on Thursday in most parts of the Kingdom, except in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba where it will be fair, the weather forecasters said, predicting freezing night as temperatures will further plummet mainly in the highlands and the Badia regions.

Similar weather conditions will continue to persist on Friday, with southeasterly moderate to brisk winds, the JMD noted.

Temperatures in Amman today will be 7 Celsius degrees, dropping to 1C during night hours, while the city of Aqaba will see a high of 18C, sliding into 8C at night.
