The British Ambassador to Jordan, Bridget Brind OBE, Sunday evening hosted a Welcome Back Event in honour of returning Chevening scholars.

A statement by the embassy on Monday said that a total of fifteen Jordanian scholars spent the academic year 2019-2020 studying for Masters’ degrees at a range of UK universities.

The ambassador congratulated the awardees on the successful completion of their studies in the challenging circumstances of a global pandemic, the statement added.

“The Chevening Scholarship Scheme is the UK’s flagship scholarship scheme. It supports future leaders by offering talented Jordanians the opportunity to enhance their skills and build their expertise in areas vital for Jordan’s future. We are delighted to celebrate the success of our scholars selected in 2019 on the successful completion of their studies in the UK. They have developed their skills in a variety of fields in world class UK universities,” the ambassador said.

“Chevening scholars are leaders in a wide range of fields, including science, politics, business, the media and more,” she added, noting that “the 2019 cohort have shown that they have the determination and resilience to succeed.

The UK envoy stressed “We look forward to continuing to support their careers through our global alumni network,” adding that “Jordanian Chevening Scholars and UK Alumni hold a range of senior positions across government, business and civil society. Our goal is to support those who are working to help Jordan reach its full potential.”

The Chevening award is the UK government’s global scholarship scheme. Since 1983, Chevening has helped to build bridges with more than 160 different countries and territories, supporting the education and development of future leaders, influencers and decision-makers across the world.

Chevening’s over 50,000-strong alumni network includes 18 current or former heads of state or government. It has promoted economic development and better business environments worldwide by funding scholars who have gone on to build companies, become directors and hold senior positions in global organisations.

“If you have ambition, leadership qualities, and a strong academic background, the British Embassy encourages you to apply during the application window. For more information please visit Chevening Jordan website,” the statement announced.
