Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi and Director of the German Development Bank (KfW) office in Amman Mark Schwiete on Monday discussed a school building project and means to cut red-tape and expedite implementation.

The German-funded school construction projects aim at bolstering the educational structure in the Kingdom, especially in areas hosting refugees divided according to the type of financing (grants and loans), and to reduce overcrowding in local schools, the minister said. He also underlined the ministry’s commitment to cementing cooperation with the KfW to create and implement more education-related projects in various parts of the Kingdom.

He noted that the tenders divided the projects into four stages; the first and second include conducting studies and creating designs to build 18 new school buildings, with 4 school that are still being processed. In the third and fourth stages, 8 to 9 schools will be built by consulting offices that will design and oversee the architectural services provided. The ministry is currently evaluating their architectural design for the schools as part of a contest.

The German government has recently granted a €100 million loan through the KfW to build 20 new schools and expand others across the Kingdom, Kisbi said.

The two officials underlined their support to the tender committee of projects funded by the KfW and the European Union, offering to make facilitations for the committee to carry out its work swiftly and efficiently.
